Festival of arts “Danube waves”
Seven days of culture, spirit, color, events, smiles, new friendships, meetings. Seven Days – Festival of Arts. And this year “Danube Waves” rocked Vidin and created an atmosphere of festivity and inspiration. It has proven that the city can be transformed into an open cultural scene, giving the opportunity to both professionals and amateurs to attract the most diverse audiences.
The festival is held since 2012 every last week of July, but in 2018 it was organized within the framework of the project “Development of competitive tourist attractions for year-round festival tourism that contributes to the diversification tourist products in the Vidin – Zajecar region”, ref. No CB007.1.11.207. The project is co-funded by EU through the Interreg-IPA CBC Bulgaria–Serbia Programme 2014-2020. The inclusion of the festival in the framework of the project and the support provided by the EU through the Programme allowed for wider participation and a wide variety of events. Days of the theater; concerts of Sinfonietta -Vidin and City Brass Orchestra; participation of rock groups and folklore evening; circus; creative workshops and exhibitions; the longest picture of the Danube. All this was organized and presented at the Baba Vida Fortress, Bdintsi Square and various areas in the Kraydunavski Park. Vidin revived and applauded nearly 500 participants from Bulgaria and Serbia.
This year’s edition of the Festival showed the existing opportunities for development of tourism in the region, combining the efforts of the two twinned towns of Vidin and Zajecar and combining the existing cultural heritage with contemporary cultural events. The cultural calendar of both municipalities is rich and attractive and its synchronization and popularization is an important prerequisite for maintaining the year-round interest and development of festival tourism in the cross-border region.
